How does culture fit within the Big Society, localism, and making neighbourhoods better? Is there room for culture within the the local authority improvement agenda? How can creativity help to engage people, and in lean times what is the argument for embedding culture within renewal work?
Supported by Arts Council England, the conference will draw upon the successful and nationally unique three year ‘Creative Places’ programme in Sheffield and bring together acclaimed experts with a wealth of experience in culture, regeneration, placemaking, meanwhile opportunities, and wellbeing.
Attending Creative Places 2010 will give you tools and evidence to help embed cultural policy within your work. You will be able to take a persuasive and practical argument about the value and return on investment in culture back to your organisation.

* David Barrie – Urban renewal and real estate creative and TV Producer of Castleford Project
* Emily Berwyn – Director, Meanwhile Project
* Paul Squires – new economics foundation
* Miranda Plowden – Director, ADF North Sheffield Council
* Andrew Skelton – Public Art officer Sheffield City Council
There will also be a speaker from CABE to be announced shortly.
Who Should Attend?
Local authority planning, housing, regeneration, economic development and arts officers | staff from registered social landlords, housing associations and HMR pathfinders | developers | consultants | artists and creatives.
The conference fee is £100+VAT.

Free Places for Artists
Arts Council England funding enables us to offer 5 free places to practising artists demonstrating an interest in culture in regeneration. If you would like to be considered please send a 300 word statement by 14 August to janet@eventus.org.uk making the case for why you should be offered a free place, including what you could contribute and what you would hope to gain from attending. Selected artists will be notified w/c 16 August.
