Alison has been busy working with the team on selecting the images for the final exhibitions, which will open on the Centenary of International Women's Day on 8 March 2011 at the Workstation in Sheffield's Cultural industries Quarter. This will feature images and 3D work produced in during the programme. A supplementary exhibition of digital images and film follow at the University of Sheffield's Jessop West exhibition space. To make sure we reach as wide an audience as possible the third space for the images will be empty shops on The Moor. Strategic Commissioning
Arts Council England Yorkshire has commissioned Eventus to carry out a Research and Development project on consortium development and strategic commissioning in the arts. For the past three years Eventus has acted as lead managing agent for a consortium of arts organisations, providing high quality arts activities as part of the Sheffield City Council Kids Can Do programme and successfully tendering for, and managing £600K of contracts. This process, and that of becoming a formally constituted consortium (the Viva South Yorkshire Arts Consortium with Eventus, Dead Earnest, Action Space Mobile and Point Blank as founder members) has developed the capacity and skills of smaller arts organisations to bid for large public sector contracts, but the current changes in the public sector mean that these type of contracts may no longer exist.
The research will explore how these skills can be utilised to meet changes in commissioning so that the arts can continue to adapt and survive to meet the challenges ahead. The findings will be implemented locally and will also be disseminated nationally, either through a seminar or publication. Look out for more information as this develops.
Creative Places
The Creative Places conference on 15 September was a great success with a rich range of speakers from different sectors. We were particularly pleased with the response from experienced artists who were offered free places due to an Arts Council subsidy.
Artist attending the event commented that they found it very interesting to hear more about the partnerships between creative practitioners, cultural organisations and local authority staff and not only were they interested in these relationships, but would be building on what they had learned to develop new partnerships between their organisations and local authorities, planning departments, property developers etc.
Eventus is keen to develop ways in which it can support the professional development of experienced artists in working in different sectors and discussions are currently underway to see how the Creative Places approach, of investing in the creative development of housing regeneration staff, can be extended into other areas of local authority working.
Footsey 2010
Eventus will be exhibiting at the Social Enterprise Trade Fair, Footsey 2010 in Doncaster for the first time this year and we will be distributing Creative Places packs and sowing the seeds of creativity.

IT & Social Media
Thanks to an IT consultancy funded by Arts Council England and carried out by Electroville, we have completely overhauled all our IT provision to help us work more efficiently and effectively and to meet new ways of working. We will soon be renewing our website too!
In the meantime, you can now follow us on Twitter at sheffeventus. Eventus is very grateful to GISTLab in the Workstation for an excellent introduction to this.
Kids Can Do
We are now on the last stages of the Kids Can Do programme for this year with excellent feedback on our delivery partners. The Positive Activities for Young People funding which has supported KCD ends in March. We are working with partners to try and keep alive the concept of quality arts provision to children and young people across Sheffield.
Eventus Board
Our committed and supportive Board of Directors are actively involved in their own fields of expertise, as well as using their knowledge and expertise to benefit Eventus. Board Member Liz Owen has contributed a chapter on Arts Museums and Libraries to the latest edition of Leisure and Recreation Management; George Torkildsen, Routledge 2010. This is the standard textbook in many universities covering policy, planning, administration and key management areas.
Future Plans
We are busy working with our Board on an exciting new development. Watch this space....
